Day 1 – A Long Awaited Flight

Introduction

Back in 2019, when I was in college, I briefly studied abroad in Japan as an exchange student at Ritsumeikan University in Kyoto. I had an amazing time, learned a lot, and made many memories during my time there. While in Japan, I kept an email blog of my day to day activities to keep those back in Canada updated on how the trip was going. Due to (slightly) popular demand, I’ve decided to up the professionalism a bit and keep this trips updates on my website for easier sharing. The website should be updated at around noon EST, which for us in Japan will be before we pack it in for the night. I hope you enjoy the read!

Day 1

A trip conceptualized almost 3 and a half years ago over drinks at the Elephant and Castle pub finally begins. Originally, my dad and I planned this trip right after I got back from Japan during my exchange program as a graduation celebration for when I would graduate in 2021. Turns out, a global pandemic has a way of delaying such plans. Woke up this morning with minimal sleep and moderate coffee. After double checking the luggage and saying our farewells, we made the drive over to Pearson. Despite the horror stories heard about airport waits, we ended up spending more time in line for Starbucks than we did going through security and getting to our gate. Because we lose an entire day on the ardous 13 hour flight to Narida aiport in Tokyo, this post is made before I get on the airplane, so there isn’t too much to cover, but I’ll write more after our first day abroad, so stay tuned!
