Day 9 – The Tropical Island of Koh Samui

With an early plane to catch, we were up at 6am to get ready and hop on the shuttle to the airport. Once we arrived at the airport, we found out that we had definitely allotted too much time for a domestic flight. After the wait, we got on the plane to take us down south to the island of Koh Samui. We were greeted by a breathtaking view of the shore and ocean when landing, serving as a nice introduction to the island.

We met up with the shuttle driver and made our way through the island to the hotel we were staying at. Unfortunately, once again arriving too early. So the next 2 hours consisted of us sipping tropical drinks with a view of the ocean at our hotel’s restaurant, which admittedly was not the biggest waste of time I’ve had.

When we were finally able to check in, we dropped our bags off at our place and took a look around. The villa was a 2-story building with a bedroom on the main floor and the entire second floor being another bedroom. Both bedrooms thankfully had an AC unit, and we had a small kitchen as well. The view from the villa was also incredible, once again overlooking the beach and ocean, as well as some of the other islands in the bay.

We decided to stock up on some food, so we started walking down to a 7-11 a little ways away. Turns out, a lot of roads and Koh Samui don’t have sidewalks, so we were basically walking on the street with cars driving around us. Coupled with the heat, it was more difficult a walk than it should have been, but we managed to get some snacks, drinks, and some ingredients to make a meal or two. After getting home and resting for a bit, we walked over to the hotel’s restaurant again for a quick bite. They had several different kinds of bruschetta, as well as an option to try 1 of each flavour. However, I guess it was lost in translation as we accidently ended up getting 3 full servings of different bruschetta. But with no planned dinner and minimal food having been eaten that day, we finished off the 3 servings.

Despite it starting to get a bit dark outside, the temperature had not changed much, so my dad and I decided to go for a quick swim at the pool before relaxing at our place for the remainder of the day. Ending the day trying to adjust my AC, I go to sleep in my now cool room, concluding the first full day in Thailand and the first night in Koh Samui.
